We are ALWAYS looking for new writers for the front page of 6P. If you have any interest in writing and showcasing your skills, go for it!
Here are the benefits of writing for us:
- If any of your articles make it to the front page, you will get a FREE 1-month subscription to Underground shortly thereafter.
- You will get recognition and respect from the Pokemon TCG community for putting yourself out there.
- It’s fun!
- It’s a great way to work on your writing skills, which can help in school.
- Many of the best players out there have written articles for Pokemon TCG sites; it’s almost a sure-fire way to help you improve at the game.
Want to get started? Here’s what you need to know:
1. You must first be approved before you can submit articles to be published on the front page of 6P.
People who are approved to write for the front page are deemed Front Page Contributors, or FPCs. In order to earn the title as a FPC, if you’ve never written a Pokemon TCG article before, you must first write one and post it to our SixPrizes Stuff forum, for everyone to see and give feedback.
Then, e-mail me your 6P username along with your responses to these 3 prompts as your résumé:
- Links to previously written Pokemon TCG articles (aka the article you just wrote, or one you wrote in the past)
- A brief summary of your most noteworthy tournament accomplishments
- Why you think you are qualified to become a Front Page Contributor
To reiterate, write an article, post it in SixPrizes Stuff, then e-mail me your 6P username and your résumé (the answers to the three prompts).
I’ll go over your résumé and get back to you within a few days with my decision and further instructions, if you’re approved.
2. Your article needs to be written professionally!
Pretend you are writing this article for school and you need to get an A, otherwise you flunk the semester. I try pretty hard to keep the standards high on 6P, and will only accept and approve well-written articles.
Here are a few general tips:
- Write as if you are writing a paper for your English class. We at SixPrizes pride ourselves on professionalism, and thus your articles must be delicately crafted.
Your articles must be coherent, organized, and contain no spelling or grammatical errors. We suggest typing your articles on a program that has a built in spell-check (such as Microsoft Word). Also, you must proofread your article several times as well; spell-check won’t pick up if you wrongly used the words “it’s” or “its” for example.
And please… no emoticons!
- Quite often, the longer your article, the better. This not always the case, but we recommend articles be at least 750 words. Card of the Days can but shorter, but many of our better articles end up being closer to 2000 or more words, however.
- Don’t reinvent the wheel. Look at the highest rated articles on the front page and a take note of how they’re structured. Notice what topics are discussed, the different sections and headings used within the articles, etc. Emulate what you see… there is a reason those articles have high ratings!
If your article doesn’t meet these criteria, don’t be surprised if it gets sent back to you for revision.
Also, don’t worry about images. We’ll take care of those for you.
3. Read the following tutorials…
These tutorials will help guide you in writing your article. PLEASE READ THEM!
- How to Choose a Topic and Structure Your Article
- Technical Requirements of Article Writing
- Articleception – The Article on How to Write Articles
And finally after you’re approved, read the Submission Instructions.
I think that about does it… yes, I know these are a lot of instructions, but they will help you write a killer article. Please make sure you’ve thoroughly read over this page, thanks for your interest in becoming a SixPrizes contributor, and good luck!
… oh and as far as the free 1-month subscription to Underground, here’s how that works. After each of your articles is published/scheduled, I (Adam) will add a freebie subscription to your account. If I forget, please e-mail and remind me.
If you have a current paid Underground membership, I will simply refund your current month. If you have free memberships accumulated eclipsing 60 days into the future, you will only receive an additional week for each article you write until you have less than 60 days of free UG membership remaining.
