So I played Flygon/Machamp
with Nidoqueen
tech today. It was a deck I had liked before its great showing at Worlds so I decided I’d give it a try at a tournament.
Round 1 – vs Kingdra
I had watched this person practice playing earlier and knew she didn’t use Unown G or Warp Point so I figured it’d be smooth sailing. I was right. As soon as they evolved into Claydol, I Inviting Trapped it and ended up passing a few turns cause she hadn’t attached an energy to it and I didn’t want to build up damage with Sand Tomb yet. Eventually she attached an energy and I started to use Sand Tomb. Of course she played freaking three Night Maintenance to slow down the decking process, but in the end Wind Erosion comes out on top.
1-0
Round 2 – vs Gardevoir/Gallade w/ Dusknoir tech
At the beginning of this match, he mulligan’d and I saw a Dusknoir DP2 so I knew to keep my bench to three. He opens up with Duskull and I with Baltoy. I Call Energy for Trapinch and Nidoran. He plays Roseanne’s and gets a Ralts and energy. Attaches to Duskull and uses Astonish. He got rid of my… Psychic Energy. Next turn I retreat, Candy to Flygon, evolve to Claydol and get two Poké Drawer + to help in Rare Candying to Nidoqueen. On his turn he.. plays a Moonlight Stadium and retreats Duskull to Ralts. Attaches to Ralts and uses Confuse Ray for tails. I level up into Flygon X and use Sand Wall to discard the Moonlight and gain invulnerability for a turn. Wind Erosion discards his Gardevoir LV.X. He attaches to Duskull and uses Confuse Ray again for tails. Wind Erosion discards a Rare Candy. On my turn, I attach and just start Power Swinging everything he has.
2-0
So now is lunch break and I head to Chik-fil-a with Louis T, Kaitlyn W, Chas B, Sam L, Garret S, Taylor M and Kevin W.
Before this round starts, the judge has a raffle or something. I won a pack of SV cards and pulled a RH Blaziken FB.
Round 3 – vs MightyTank w/ Honchkrow G and Absol G
He opens with a Honchkrow G and two Poochyena on the bench and I with Trapinch. I was going first, too and was thinking “oh crap I’m gonna get donked”. I topdecked a Call Energy and used it for two Baltoy. Luckily this person was focused more on getting Mightyena up and he Roseanne’d for Skuntank G and Absol G. Then he used Honcho’s Command for only a Moonlight Stadium. I got a very quick Claydol, Flygon and Nidoqueen up and eventually Power Swung to victory.
He seemed like a very nice kid and I felt bad for beating him (I dunno why) so I gave him the RH Blaziken FB I had pulled.
3-0
Round 4 – vs random SP deck
Yay! SP! In this match I started with Machop and got T2 Machamp to just dominate. The game lasted 4 minutes.
4-0
Round 5 vs Josh w/ Machamp and Mewtwo tech
Now normally I’d think this game would be very easy, but this kid gets T1 Machamp just about EVERY game. He had gotten T1 (T2 if he goes first) Machamp every game he had played today. When we were cutting each others decks, I shuffled his and proceeded to set up. I started with a Machop and he did too. I was going first. I draw a Call Energy, but I already had one. Attach it and use it for a Baltoy and Trapinch. On his turn, he draws, Rare Candies into Machamp, plays an Uxie and Roseanne’s for another Machop and energy and then uses Take Out. I don’t really remember much of this game but I know the turning point was when I had my undamaged Flygon LV.X active and he leveled up his undamaged Machamp. He needed three heads on Hurricane Punch to KO me. He flipped… one, one, one, three. At that point he knew the game was in my favor, as I had been Wind Eroding a lot of his Energies and both his NM. I proceeded to Extreme Attack and Power Swing for the win.
5-0
There’s a top 4, woo.
Game 1:
He opens with Shuppet and I with Trapinch RR. I go first. Call Energy for Machop and Baltoy. He draws, attaches to Shuppet. He then plays down Crobat G, Poké Turn, Crobat G, Poké Turn, Crobat G, Poké Turn and plays it down again, putting me at 40 damage. He KO’s me with Gossip. On my turn, I Roseanne’s for another Machop and Uxie. Use Set Up and draw into a Claydol and Rare Candy. Evolve my Baltoy, and use Cosmic Power to get a Machamp SF. I pretty much just dominated from there.
1-0
Game 2:
He opens with Shuppet again, and I with Machop SF. I of course go first and use Call Energy for Machop and Baltoy. This game he gets out Banette and a Luxray GL and Rayquaza C on the bench, but it’s too late because I have two Machamp and a Flygon being powered up.
2-0
Top 2 – vs Josh w/ Machamp
Game 1:
This game was very easy. I start with Machop and go first. I topdeck Call Energy and use it for Baltoy and Trapinch SW. He draws, plays a Broken Time-Space and goes to Machamp. Plays down an Unown G and guards his Machamp. Then he plays down an Azelf and looks at his prizes. That’s when we realize he had set out seven prizes. We called a judge over and he chose a card at random to put on the bottom. We continue with the game now. He uses Take Out. With his Broken Time-Space in play, I get a god set up. I was able to get two Claydol and a Vibrava on the bench. I attach an Upper Energy and Sand Wall to discard the Broken Time-Space. He draws, looks at his hand, attaches and uses Hurricane Punch. He knows about Sand Wall but wanted to see what he would flip. He got four heads. It’s now my turn and I double Poké Drawer for Rare Candy and Nidoqueen, Bebe’s for Flygon, and attach my energy for turn. I use Power Swing for the knock out. He only has an Azelf in play, so scoops.
1-0
Game 2:
Much like the previous match, this one was even easier. During the set up we make sure he has six prizes this time. After he sets out his prizes, he realizes he only drew 6 cards. I didn’t pay attention to what order he set them out in so we called a Judge again. The Judge took a prize card and put it on the bottom of the deck and gave my opponent a prize card for his hand. He now had 5 prizes and like an eight card hand. The judge just took a card and shuffled it into the deck. After all of that, my opponent starts with Unown G and I with Trapinch. He opts to go first. On my turn I Rare Candy into Flygon, attach, Roseanne’s for Baltoy and something and then pass. On his turn he plays down Machop and an Azelf. I realize he has a horrible hand and just set up a Machamp with 1 energy to take out (lame pun) his field.
2-0
Final record was 7-0.
So I finally won a Battle Roads and get the awesome Victory Medal I had wanted.
I opened my four packs and pulled a Rayquaza C X and Drfblim FB. I then traded all 40 cards I pulled for 2 RH Flygon and 1 regular holo Flygon so my Dad could play the deck too if he wanted. My top 4 opponent then told me had a Flygon X so I bought it for $30.
I had a great day overall and am glad I played Flygon w/ Machamp.
