really nice article! it sucks that you went undefeated in swiss and then the deck blows it in top cut. i went 4-2 in my states and made 10th in top 8 but on the bright side, I won the side tourney and got 4 boosters!

Nice article! It’s always good to see someone “stick it to the man” (aka, LuxChomp)! Well, at least in Swiss. Sorry to hear what happened in top cut. Good luck next time!

Nice article. The luxchomp card made me laugh. Charizard is a scary thing. Lost my first match at states yesterday here in Aussie land to a charizard + seeker donk. Stage 2 decks like zard are boss.

really nice and congratz. also did you run the same deck from city’s?

    • Travis

It’s really close with a few minor tweaks.

Would you like to share. I have been testing out multiple Charizard ideas.

“I’ve also put too much work into my list to risk it being net-decked, but I will say it is mind-bendingly close to the final list in my last report.” from the article.

Congrats on doing so well with Charizard. I know I know, you failed in top cut, but you see when I play Charizard just making it to top cut is awesome and it proves to people that the deck is actually good. I tell this to people all the time, but I just love to see that other people actually play Charizad. I also agree with you when you said the deck requires practice and tweaking because I have been testing Charizard ever since I saw the Japanese scan for Ninetales HS, and I’m still in the process of making the deck “perfect”. Again, congratulations and I want you to know that I always enjoy reading your articles. :) Hope you do well at regionals! :D

Dude, don’t feel bad at all for failing in the top cut, that really doesn’t matter, because you know it was not you who failed, it was your deck. And you can change your deck much easier than you can change you.

    Thats awesome, congrats!

I love seeing articles like this, where a deck that is generally seen as a lower tier choice like Charizard does well. I used to run Charizard, with little success, but my friend has picked it up, and had his first winning tournament record ever with it. I’ll definitely have to recommend your articles to him, they seem to be filled with good tips for Charizard players. Congratulations on the performance, great article, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to writings of yours in the future (as will my friend, who is now trying to figure out your list :D).

As a Charizard player myself I would’ve liked to see your decklist; I notice you run Rescue Energy, Infernape 4, and I see no mention of Spiritombs. It looks very different from the one that at least gave me an above-500 finish at Provincials (albeit with some crappy luck), and I’m curious if we can bump heads a bit before Regionals, so I can tighten up my build a bit. Check my thread in Deck Discussion; replies here never come back to me soon enough.
