If you haven’t read Parts 1, 2, and 3, read it now! This is a series, and you must always be updated!
I’m bringing you more underrated, underhyped, and overlooked cards, but , occasionally, I’ll be including some popular cards which need to be discussed in deeper detail.
Let me tell you a story. I was walking down the road and I met some friends I haven’t talked to for a while. I asked them this question:
“What do Shaymin PL and Delcatty PL have in common?”
Top 3 most-far-off-from-the-real-answer answers:
· “they’re both cute?” – yeah they are, but that’s not what I was looking for.
· “they both have small black noses?” – good point, but no.
· “they’re both Pokemon?” -DUH?!
And the answers keep on coming. But, after a lot of brainstorming, one friend said, “they both have abilities which focus on energy cards.” Correct! Yehey!
Yes, guys, our feature today is all about Energy Tactics, and with us today is Shaymin and Delcatty from the Platinum series.
Without further ado, let’s get talking!
First up, is Delcatty PL.
Delcatty. 90 HP, +20, -0, 0 RC stats. Sitting at 90 HP, Delcatty is no new face to Energy Tactics.
For the past expansions, Delcatty has been always affiliated with Poke-Powers/Attacks/Abilities that have something to do with Energy, and Delcatty PL is no exception.
Its Poke-Power, Power Circulation, searches your discard pile for 2 energy cards, and you put those Energy on top of your deck, for a cost; Delcatty receives 2 damage counters. That’s not really what you would want to happen to your Pokemon, but never fear! Think about these:
• Delcatty’s first attack, Power Heal, does 10 damage plus 10 more damage for each damage counter on Delcatty. Then, you remove 2 damage counters on Delcatty. That’s one way.
• You may want to put a 1-1-1 or 1-0-1 Nidoqueen Line.
• The Nidoqueen Line can ensure you that Delcatty will be at perfect Health. Maternal Comfort, in between turns, removes 1 damage counter from each of your Pokemon. Now that is something! After you use Delcatty’s Power Circulation, by your next turn, Delcatty will be at 90 HP again, idealistically.
Rear Kick, Delacatty’s second attack, serves an ok 60 damage for 3 of any Energy. That’s all into it. :D
Delcatty serves a variety of spectacular Pokemon out there, either by boosting their attack’s base damage, or by speeding up the set-up and attack delivery. Here are some Pokemon that are very prolific under Delcatty’s prowess.
Magmortar UL.
Magmortar UL is actually reviewed as a terrible card, that is, on his own. But, when combined with other cards, it becomes a force to be reckoned with. And one card that can glorify Magmortar is, yes, Delcatty.
Hard Crush can deliver a sure 100 damage when Delcatty is around. First, use Delcatty’s Power Circulation to recover 2 energy cards from the Discard pile and put it on top of your deck. Then, Magmortar will use Hard Crush, discarding the 2 Energy Cards Delcatty recovered.
The third card will be a random card. Lucky you if the third card is also an Energy card. :D And the process repeats itself. :D Nidoqueen will be always there to heal off the damage counters caused by Power Circulation.
Also, Delcatty can aid Salamence’s Poke-Power, Top Accelerator, which, in turn, helps other Pokemon as well.
Salamence’s Top Accelerator makes you reveal the top card of your deck. If the top card is an Energy Card, then you attach it to one of your Pokemon. If it is not an Energy card, then you discard it.
It might be a bit risky, but Delcatty’s Power Circulation can make sure that you would be always revealing an Energy card. This is one way of accelerating Energy Attachment.
Of course, there are many other Pokemon out there that are helped by Delcatty PL, and other Delcatty as well. BlastCatty is one Example. One Worlds Deck (the Swampert ex one) had utilized Delcatty for the Deck’s strategy. I’m also not sure if Delcatty has been used in BlastGatr decks.

I went to a wedding before, and what they threw as a bouquet was actually a Shaymin from PL (#38). I’m sure lucky I caught it and wrote something about it. :D Lemme share it to ya.
Shamyin (#38). 80 HP, +20, -20, 1 RC stats. Shaymin’s an upcoming superstar in Energy Tactics.
Let’s focus first on Shaymin’s attacks. Energy Blow, for no Energy, does 10 damage plus 10 more damage for each Energy attached to Shaymin. It’s really not a bad attack, if you ask me.
Aromatherapy, for 1 Grass Energy and 2 of any energy, does 40 damage to the opponent and you get to remove 2 damage counters from each of your Pokemon. Much like a Mini-Grass Arceus, IMO.
Shaymin PL, on its own, is not really that spectacular. What I mean is, it needs the support of some cards out there for it to become a force to be reckoned with. One very important requirement would be Shaymin (LF) LV.X.
Unlike in my past thread wherein I said leveling-up Garchomp is solely for added attacks and HP boost, using Shaymin LandForme LV.X is actually a vital part of making Shaymin LandForme be so powerful.
First, its Poke-Body, Thankfulness, boosts all of your Grass Pokemon’s HP by 40, excluding any Shaymin. That can be a great aid in evading KOs from the opponent.
Also, aside from the +40 HP boost, another vital reason for Leveling-up Shaymin is because of Shaymin LandForme LV.X’s attack, Seed Flare.
• Before doing damage, you have the option of attaching any amount of Grass Energy from your hand to any of your Pokemon in any way you like. If you do, Seed Flare’s 40 base damage will get boosted by 20 for each Energy card attached in this way.
• Imagine if you have a multitude of Grass Energy in your hand; you can do 100+ damage with Seed Flare! Once your hand is clear of Energy, you can start using Energy Blow and deliver consistent 60′s, 70′s, or even 80′s!
And, later in the game, you can also use Aromatherapy to heal off any Damaged Pokemon. Combine Nidoqueen and Grass Arceus with Shaymin’s Aromatherapy, too, for amplified healing.
This is actually optional, but if you want to, you can use Shaymin SkyForme LV.X.
It is not Revenge Seed that we are after, but Energy Flare, which gives you an opportunity to rearrange the Energy Cards attached to all of your Pokemon.
When you need to adjust the Energy-based damage you use (Energy Blow, etc.), you can use this card. Revenge Seed can be helpful only at some times. However, I think it would be impractical to run both Formes in one deck, and there are more other ways to rearrange Energy Cards attached to all of your Pokemon, such as Celebi MT‘s Leaf Tornado.
Who can aid Shaymin’s Energy Blow and can benefit from Shaymin LV.X’s Seed Flare? Leafeon LV.X.
Leafeon LV.X’s Energy Forcing can aid Shaymin’s Energy Blow by attaching an extra energy during your turn, thus adding 10 more damage to Energy Blow.
Since Seed Flare makes you attach any amount of Grass Energy from your hand to your Pokemon, Leafeon LV.X can utilize that and make Verdant Dance a very great attack.
Another thing that can boost Shaymin is Sceptile, from GE.
Since each Grass Energy Card will now provide Two Grass Energy when Sceptile is around, the damage output of Energy Blow will be doubled. Also, Energy Blow only counts each ENERGY attached to Shaymin, and not each ENERGY CARD attached to Shaymin. It’s not only Shaymin that Sceptile GE helps, but practically every Grass Pokemon out there.
Aside from reconfiguring the Energy Cards using Shaymin SkyForme LV.X, you may want to use Meganium Prime, too.
Leaf Trans can help adjust the damage output of Energy Blow, too, and at the same time, save some Energy cards from a dying fellow Grass Pokemon who has lots of Grass Energy attached to it. Shaymin would have some near-death moments, too, so, to save the Energy Cards attached to Shaymin, you can use Meganium’s Leaf Trans. Then, you can use those Energy Cards for other attacks.
