Vote for Writer of the Month – August 2011

What’s up homies?

GO FEDERER!!

I can’t believe it’s September already and every is going back to school. The summer sure flew by, but I know I had a lot of fun and I hope you did too! I’m still bummed I missed Worlds, but hopefully I can make it to Hawaii next year and see everyone.

By the way… if anyone is going to be at the US Open in New York tomorrow, gimme a shout! I’m going for my first time. I got grounds passes and I’m pretty excited. I’m a total tennis geek incase you didn’t know.

Anyway, back on subject: Congrats to the top writers of the month in June! Here were the top 5 vote getters:

  1. a hahn – 40 votes
  2. Daniel Middleton – 39 votes
  3. Kenny Wisdom – 37 votes
  4. Justin Williams – 31 votes
  5. The Purple Pro – 23 votes

Thank you so much to everyone that wrote an article the last couple months, I really appreciate it!

We had 19 different contributors to the site in August, which is down from 23 in July, so I wanna see some new people step up in September! Writing an article for the site is a great way to help improve your game.

Being in the spotlight kinda forces you to man-up, and I highly recommend doing trying it at some point. Many of the best players out there have written articles for various Pokemon sites during their careers.

Like last month, you’ll be able to vote for your top 5 favorite (favourite) writers. Voting ends on Sunday, September 4th at 11:59 PM EST.

As always, the top 10 vote getters will receive a FREE month subscription to SixPrizes Underground.

If YOU would like to become a contributor to the site (and have a chance to snag one of those free UG memberships), check out the instructions here.

THE POLL

Vote for your 5 favorite writers from last month (August 2011).

In other news…

1. TcgScans.com Is Mostly Done

Do not consider this an official announcement about the site, but TcgScans.com is pretty functional right now. Go ahead, bookmark it, and play around with it if you have some time to kill. It’s basically meant to be a really quick way to look up cards, and also rate/comment on them.

I’ve been working a lot on trying to make the site load really fast. I still have a few things left to do to try and optimize it a little more, but it’s pretty slick right now.

Other than making the site load faster, I’m working on showing price comparisons between different popular online stores. That’s why I asked for input on Facebook, incase you were wondering.

I don’t really have plans to add advanced sorting features, but please let me know if you do have any input on the site! If anything bothers you or doesn’t work as you’d expect, PLEASE let me know and I’ll try to fix it.

Oh, and I still need to upload more cards. I think nearly everything from HS through EPO should be up though!

2. Free Underground Articles

Liam W. suggested that we open up some old Underground articles for people to view free. Are there any specific articles you guys want to see? I could unlock a couple oldies… take a look here and let me know.

Until next time,

-Adam

Commenting Etiquette

Be cool. That's all we ask. The writers and editors put a lot of time into bringing you these articles, so show some respect. It's ok to be critical, but please be civil about it. Don't embarrass yourself in front of everyone by making juvenile remarks because you may regret it later. If you have issue with someone, "Get a room." Nobody wants to see your childish back-and-forth banter. Think twice before commenting, use proper grammar, HAVE FUN, and thanks for adding to the conversation!

I’m surprised Flare hasn’t gotten more votes. That was my favorite article I’ve read all summer, and possibly my favorite on this site.

    • Anonymous

Agreed.  I’m so glad we were able to convince him to write in with it.  He’s also a pretty cool guy IRL.

    • http://adamcap.com/ Adam Capriola

I voted for Flare too, his article was great!

    • Anonymous

      I also voted for it.

If it doesn’t make the top 5 soon, my parents and pets will be opening accounts on this website

      • Anonymous

I see what you did there.

What does that mean? Is that supposed to be insulting?

      • The Purple Pro

Please don’t mock me like that. I won’t be repeating that mistakes so please move on.

Anyone else seeing the UG list here instead of the ‘free’ writers? :S

    • Anonymous

Refresh the page with a “hard reset” (hold control and hit f5)

It’s caused by cookies that have you both logged in and not logged in overlapping.  It happens to me occasionally.

      • http://profiles.google.com/daglaceon alex hedge

For me it still isn’t showing.

      • David G

Could’ve sworn the refresh force was Shift+F5

  • Anonymous

As far as the releasing old UG articles thing goes, why not do one of each type?
We already have “the bible on luxchomp” available for free, so why not release the following three:

Example of an event report and how the author covers the deck choice they used, along with hindsight: http://www.sixprizes.com/tournament-reports/battle-roads-report-dialga-discussion/

Example of short-but-sweet “new deck idea” article:
    http://www.sixprizes.com/deck-analysis/kingchamp-kingdra-machamp-deck-list-analysis/

Example of a “general coverage” article:
    http://www.sixprizes.com/tips-and-strategy/introduction-2010-2011-season/

I think those three articles serve as outdated resources that show what sets UG apart from the rest.

  • Carl Scheu

i voted for flare too…i just thought it was an overall cool article.

  • Anthony Smith

I really appreciate the votes I’ve gotten already. When I opened the page I expected to have only a few votes. So thank you!

I wanted to write more this month, but I’ve had to step it up with uni. Working full time doesn’t help either.

I rather enjoyed the booster draft articles this month amongst the others. Emerging powers was only my second pre release ever.

I hope to write something more thought provoking next month so please stay tuned!

    • Carl Scheu

i feel the same way, i didn’t expect to do this well b/c all of my articles had really low viewership, but hey i guess that doesn’t decide everything. and actually anthony part of your article somewhat inspired me to do a CoTD.

  • Anthony Smith

Spoiler alert : Adam Capriola is actually Roger Federer.

    • Anonymous

I don’t think Roger Federer has enough time to run this site. Sorry.

  • http://twitter.com/AzZ0na Josh

How did the purple pro get votes? is his family voting for him again…

    • The Purple Pro

No they are not. I’m sorry about that. It’s a lesson learned, a lesson gained. I really hope everyone forgives me and I won’t do that again. Now for my articles low quality, I’m working on that and I’m going to try to get back to how I used to write. I’m not going to rush, and I’m going to proofread through many times. I hope everyone understands and moves on. Thank you.

i think the winning the mind game ug article should be free

    Adam;

Worlds wasn’t in Hawaii bro, it was in San Fran. I am pretty sure that it is coming to Orlando next year, but not completely.

    • http://twitter.com/kwisdumb Kenny Wisdom

Worlds was in San Diego this year, and is going to be in Hawaii next year.

  • Legendhunter32

I would love to see an article like this one http://www.sixprizes.com/tips-and-strategy/pro-tips-beginners/ because its still useful.(or so the title implies)

and probably a deck analysis from last format.

But this is just my opinion.

  • http://twitter.com/kwisdumb Kenny Wisdom

I think the best way to give out “free” UG articles would be to set a standard that whenever a UG article has been around for a certain number of months it becomes “unlocked” and anyone can view it. I’d recommend a period of 10 weeks or so.
