Vote for Writer of the Month – January 2011! (Plus Bug and Suggestion of the Month Winners)

I'm so tired of the snow.

Alright! It’s time to vote for Writer of the Month – January 2011!

It should be fun to see how this plays out since we had 17 (!) different contributors last month. The top 3 vote getters will get their picture displayed in the right sidebar, and they will be forever enshrined in the prestigious 6P Hall of Fame.

The top 10 vote getters will all receive a 1 month FREE Underground membership and they’ll be considered Featured Writers for February.  Pretty sweet if you ask me.

If you’d like to become a contributor to the site, please read over the instructions here.

You can vote for up to 7 of your favorite writers from last month.

EDIT: We’ll take the top 10 vote getters, and have another poll to decide the top 3 writers in a few days. Thanks Baby Mario for speaking up about the voting issues.

In other news… not a lot to talk about in regards to the site. I’ve decided to scale back a bit and the site is probably going to remain in its current state until I get inspiration to make changes. I might start a new website in the meantime or get a job. Or a haircut. Or move somewhere warm (I’m in desperate need of some sun).

That's more like it.

I did revise some of the article submission instruction pages and re-haul the backend a little more. My goal is to make things as simple as possible for anyone submitting articles. WordPress (the software the site is run on) gives like a zillion options by default, and I know it’s probably confusing for someone submitting an article seeing all the different settings.

So what I did was try to hide all the extra stuff that you don’t need to see. You’ll see only the essential options whenever you’re submitting an article, which I hope makes the submission process easier on you.

Also single Underground articles are unavailable indefinitely. I decided it was too time consuming to deal with those, so the only way you get view Underground articles now is to be a member. Sorry if that inconveniences anyone. I just don’t have the time to manage those purchases.

Anyway… get voting!

Bug of the Month

Bug of the Month winner for January 2011 is Joe D. (coolscyther) who was bugged that the Apprentice download link wasn’t working. D’oh!

Thanks for letting me know it was broken Joe.  It has since been corrected and Apprentice should be again available for download… which reminds me: if anyone updates the patch to include Call of Legends, let me know and I’ll upload it to the site.

Suggestion of the Month

Suggestion of the Month goes to Philip S. (Electabuzy) who suggested that we have links or pop-up images for all the cards listed in an article.

I think this is an awesome idea, though I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever get to working on anything like this. The basic idea is that all cards mentioned in an article would be linked, and if you hover over the link, an image of the card would appear.

For now, I’m just going to recommend you have BebesSearch.com open in another tab on your browser in case you don’t know what a card does.

Both Joe and Philip get to view any one Underground article of their choosing for their keen ideas.

Last Month

And just to keep tabs… last month’s bug was our lack of Underground Freebies. What I’ve done is eliminate the Freebies, but I’m now keeping an archive of the e-mail newsletter that gets sent out, which contains freebies. You can signup for the the newsletter and check out the archives here.

The suggestion from December was to make a way for newer players to submit decks to get reviewed and turned into articles (like a the Pojo deck garages from yesteryear).

We haven’t done that yet… but if any of the site’s contributors are interested in doing that, then mention you’ll fix decks somewhere in your next article and include your e-mail for anyone who wants to contact you.

Commenting Etiquette

Be cool. That's all we ask. The writers and editors put a lot of time into bringing you these articles, so show some respect. It's ok to be critical, but please be civil about it. Don't embarrass yourself in front of everyone by making juvenile remarks because you may regret it later. If you have issue with someone, "Get a room." Nobody wants to see your childish back-and-forth banter. Think twice before commenting, use proper grammar, HAVE FUN, and thanks for adding to the conversation!

Travis wrote The king of decks, not the king of donks BTW =P Also, I GOT MY FIRST VOTE! (Although I did give it to myself…)

    • Travis

Thank you, I was going to mention that XD

      • Anonymous

We all know that Charizard is the king of donks, too! Therefore, you totally COULD have written that article, too! I mean, sure, it takes charmander candy ‘zard fire energy collector lux ball and another basic in your starting hand, but that’s totally doable. And of course, you always go second, because NOBODY expects a charizard rush.

There, I get +1 theorymon points

      • Travis

The KING of DECKS was about NidoKING lol. Thats the whole point of the name XD

I have donked with Zard before though. It’s not too rare of a thing to happen >.>

      • Anonymous

I’m aware, i found the King deck to be a ncie article.

And right, so now, you have to write an article about turbo charizard donk. Your icon insists!

      • Travis

Thanks, it’s an under rated deck. I had a friend beat LuxChomp once with it 0.o

lol I can’t imagine how I’d do that. Getting zard out alone is useless. The deck itself already concentrates on getting a zard out quickly, but also filling the bench. There’s little room because of all the pokemon that are needed. I’m very concerned about rotation though. If arceus is cut, there will be no legal Charizard. I might die a little inside.

The Force is with me once again…. YEAH BABY!!!!

I feel like Gengar SF, Crobat G. Always lurking around the top but not completely cutting it. Oh well!

7 votes is silly. (I know you don’t have to use them all, but most people will).

You vote for your favourite (the new player articles were brilliant)

Then you vote for 2 or 3 things you recall liking

Then you’re really stuggling to use the vote in a meaningful way . . . you end up just voting for random stuff you vaguely remember . . . and you’re giving them the same credit as you did to something you thought was really good.

3 votes MAX is enough, no? That way a vote means more.

I was debating on the number of votes to allow, but I’m pretty sure things will even out because there will be a lot of people voting.

Yeah, I saw the major drop in ranking for me coming, I just didn’t submit much this month (I sent in a few COTDS, but no articles). I’ve got a bunch of stuff ready for February, though.

Good job to all of those who are doing well on the poll. For those who aren’t, just keep trying and I’m sure you’ll do better next month.

Thanks for all the votes guys <3 I'm working on another segment of Taking Another Look at :D. It's on Lost wOrld lol

  • Sam Marshall-Smith

Hey guys, you can give me votes on my COTD now! =P I mean come on, its almost in January…

  • Lamar

I’m so close…perhaps I will make a comeback? I’ll earn it next month if I’m not voted in for January!
