The Universal Pokemon TCG Chat

Hey everyone,

I e-mailed a few fellow webmasters yesterday to see if they would be interested in this idea…

My attempts to make a chat room for this site in the past have failed, mainly because our audience is too small to sustain it.

However, the combined audiences of a few websites should be enough to get a chat started… and to keep it going (for a long time hopefully).

So yesterday I spent a couple hours setting the chat up and I think it’s good to go…

This chat will unite audiences from Team Omar, HeyTrainer, J-Wittz, and of course this site.

I e-mailed Pokebeach about it, but their webmaster isn’t the friendliest about these kinds of things. I don’t know who to contact on PokeGym, so if anyone wants to ask them to be a part of it, that would be awesome.

I updated the chat page with a Javascript version of the chat (which is slow to load and slow to use, at least on my computer) but there are also instructions for connecting via a desktop client, like mIRC (for PC) or Colloquy (for Mac). Using a desktop client is the best option if you are able to figure it out.

The webmasters of the aforementioned sites will all be SOPs and we will be designating people to be OPs (those are basically terms for admins and moderators for IRC).

We are all hopeful this thing becomes a lively forum for discussion. It is probably going to take some time to get going… but as they say Rome wasn’t built in a day.

P.S. There are about 10 articles in the queue I need to look at… I’m hoping to get through them by tomorrow at the latest. I meant to go through them last night but started working on this project.

    I can’t connect from mIRC neither. I already changed my ip but the problem persist. Does somebody have the same problem?

    I have a PHP chat that on one of my subdomains I have on my friend’s server. I can give you a download link if you email me tonight at SkyAoiSora@hotmail.com so you can try it out if you want. You can create different rooms, including private rooms, and invite other players to the rooms. I don’t think you can register users per se, but you can register usernames to admins with password protection. If you’re interested, send me an email and I’ll reply tonight when I get home from work. =]

    Is it IRC?

    The reason I want to stick with IRC is because it’s really easy for anybody
    to connect to it, either directly on a website or through a desktop program.

    That seems really odd… I’d just wait a day and try again. Sometimes those
    kinds of things resolve themselves.

    Use mIRC if possible, the java applet on the site isn’t always the best.

    It loads and runs slow for me on here too… I’d say to just use colloquy on
    your mac. That’s what I’ve been using, it’s pretty good.
