it wouldnt shut down fainting spell would it? since gengar as to be knocked out it goes to discard pile and therfore cant have damage counters on it.

    • Anonymous

Fainting Spell would fail because when the Power activates, Gengar will have damage counter on it.

      • Anonymous

oh well thanks for infoing me on that. guess i was thinking more yugioh rules about graveyard and abilities.

yay a rogue deck! This is a good counter deck, but there are a few things i have to ask about.

people in your area run magnegatr and blastigatr? those seem like rogue decks, or decks too slow to play at tourneys.

why no nidoqueen? with the new ranculus, that could be a great idea, because if you took 70, you could remove 10 right away, then use all your powers, then spread it around and nidoqueen it away. and you could heal all of your power pokemon.

    • Anonymous

There’s only two powers in this deck, other than uxie’s. Underwater dive, and Galactic Switch. Nidoqueen would not do much for me in that regards. It could make a decent tech option according to playstyle, but it’s not something i’d ever use.

Now this I’d the kind of article I like to see.

    • Anonymous

Thanks. We poured our hearts into this one. But really, the fact that people are saying 6P is a joke site mobilized us. Also, I enjoy getting feedback on ideas. This deck will be with us at the Roseville cities, as well, so look out for us if you’re there.

Well I guess I’m not playing vilegar at roseville hahaha

      • Anonymous

Aww, you totally should run Vilegar. Just ignore the fact that it would give other people an easier chance =) So there’s someone else confirmed going to Roseville next week?

      • http://twitter.com/musicdude4 Charlie Yates

Well I’m switching back and forth with that and others. The norcal meta is so weird its just straight vilegar and gdos. Maybe you will see one or two sp decks in masters.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, I believe it was the Bakersfield cities we were at, and the tournament was a decent enough size, but very few SP. I know there was one Dialgachomp that Cabd beat (guy started with lone Unown Q), and a Luxchomp player who nearly had his deck stolen. Saw maybe one Blazechomp and another possible Luxchomp. So many common SP counters that it’s getting harder and harder to play it. Not that I have any problem with that, though, I’ve lost to my fair share of SP variants.

      • http://twitter.com/musicdude4 Charlie Yates

Up here its kind of weird, some sp decks make top cut because no one is running very many sp counters (due to the lack of sp players). It’s alright I go against the grain and run something like Machamp haha.

      • Anonymous

Yes, please DO run Machamp. The OTHER deck we’re playing with is a ‘Champ counter, so thanks.

  • Anonymous

Note for the moment, Cabd is busy for the next several hours and has asked me to deal with questions on this. I was the one who made/uses this deck and wrote over 2/3 of the analysis itself, so I’m probably qualified to talk about it. He can confirm this when he’s back, if anyone has doubts.

Posting this comment not only as a notice, but to add in something I didn’t do until after this was submitted, and it works pretty well as another option. Every possible attacker in this deck takes one lightning energy at the most, with the rest being colorless. Adding in basic metal energies, three at the absolute most, will allow you to still use every attacker, and use Lucario GL and Bronzong G (both requiring MCC) in a desperate emergency. It also would make the Conductive Quarry stadium from SF an option. However, my personal decklist doesn’t use the Crobat/Turns and has more energy, as it’s not focused as much as anti-Powers or anti-Vilegar than the analyzed list, and I never found it necessary. Possible options with this are either taking out the Crobat and Turns for more energy, or taking out two lighting (or a lightning and DCE if you don’t want that), and adding two or three basic metal energy.

This was a fantastic article, thanks! I’ve been trying to tech Lanturn as a Gyarados counter into Gatr decks for weeks, and like you said, it just hasn’t worked. This is a much better idea.

SP-heavy metas will probably be tough for this deck, but I’m sure we’re all sick of hearing that comment at the end of every article, so I’ll shut up now.

    • Anonymous

So far as I know, there’s no way to both power up Lanturn and hit Gyarados for weakness on the same turn. And leave it on the bench too long to power it, Gyarados can take it out with Regi Move, Cyclone Energy, or a few other things. Not unless you use Energy Link, which also didn’t work and blocks Expert Belt. Too bad, because Rain Dance and Underwater Dive should be a really cool combination as a tech possibility, and it sounds so great in theory.

There’s not many decks that don’t have some trouble with SP, unfortunately. And just a 1-1 Dialga G line could tear this down pretty well with all the Bodies. Thankfully the number of full SP decks where I play is dropping, but if anything changes, or if we bring this to Regionals and there’s too many SP there, it’s a sad auto loss choice of deck.

      • Anonymous

The only way I could engineer powering Lanturn and hitting Gyarados the same turn was to use the Chinchou LA that is water-type. If BTS is in play or you have a Rare Candy to spend, you can play water-type Chinchou, Gatr him up with water energy, evolve to Lanturn, add one electric energy, and then still use Lanturn’s electric typing. The other nice thing about this is if you are using Gatr, you probably have a lot of other water energy on the field (which counts towards Lanturn’s attack damage). But it requires a lot of things to be true–BTS in play, Chinchou, Lanturn, and one electric energy in hand, and something to SSU/Switch your active back for Lanturn. So in practice you’re still right–not effective.

      • Anonymous

Ah, I hadn’t thought of testing it with the water-type Chinchou LA, though mainly because by the time I’d stopped using the HS one to use the LA, I was already looking for a replacement Feraligatr and was adding in more and more electric types until the deck accidentally turned into this. And while Feraligatr isn’t the most expensive card, the price really stacks up when you have three Lanturn Primes, this originally using two Ampharos Primes, and then two Feraligatr Primes. Not only this was more effective, it was a much cheaper option, which was one of my biggest goals for this deck at first.

Thanks for all your ideas and your praise. I’m really glad you guys liked this article, and Travis, you’re bad at hiding. Your Charizard icon gave you away.

I look forward to seeing people at the Roseville cities next weekend, and I hope to see lots of vilegar, as it seems that many people are going “not luxchomp, tl;dr”

    Mwahahahahahahhahahaa *cough * hahahahahahhaaa…..

YOU STOLE MY DECK IDEA!!!! lol jk. In July, I had a Lanturn Prime deck that was paired with *GASP* Ampharos. I had Ampharos Prime, HeartGold & SoulSilver Ampharos (kick @$$), and Platinum Ampharos. It was a kick to play. I’m glad someone else got to experience Lanturn’s awesomeness. :)

    • Anonymous

Yeah. We’ll be probably posting a mini-city report from Roseville next weekend, too. I really think Ampharos PL and Lanturn Prime are under-rated cards.

  • Anonymous

Why not run 4 Galactic HQ that way whenever your opponent evolves their automatically damaged?

    • Anonymous

Two things: One, it would damage us too, shutting off Underwater dive entirely. Secondly, it’s useful, but the pure awesomeness of Sunyshore Gym is just too good to pass up.

      • Anonymous

Ah that’s most likely a good call.

  • Anonymous

Why do you even need Ampharos Prime when you have Crobat G? Doesn’t Crobat G effectively shut off powers better than Ampharos Prime?

    • Anonymous

Trainer lock. Gengar needs one energy to attack, so make them put one damage counter on him, and fainting spell is bye-bye from the start. Also, it lets you use crobat G on the bench sitters while the body places damage on the attacking power-users.
