Hello everybody! Today’s deck analysis is a combo I thought of while play-testing my Blastoise/Feraligatr deck. It combines the awesome, efficient “Rain Dance” power of Feraligatr Prime with the beastly attack “Dragon Beat” of our very own Stormfront Gyarados. I haven’t yet tested the deck; it’s just an idea, so help me out with your comments!

Pokemon
4-4 Gyarados (SF) |
Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums
3 Rare Candy |
Energy
15 Water Energies |
Strategy:
This deck is played a lot like Blastoise/Feraligatr (I’m assuming you know about it. If you don’t, there are plenty of articles on 6P about it…) except it runs Gyarados as the main attacker instead of Blastoise.
Gyarados, being a stage 1, is easier to get out than Blastoise, and has multiple uses and several attacks for different stages of the game.
Early Game:
Try to get Gyarados and Feraligatr Prime out. It will be harder due to a lack of Claydol (Hey, I didn’t rotate him out of the format!). You have Uxies (and maybe LV.X) for draw and that’s that. Communicate, BTS, and Candy for early evolutions.
Depending on how much energy you have, you can “Rain Dance” 2 or 5 to Gyrados for either “Wreak Havoc” for 40 and mabey deck discards, or the beastly “Dragon Beat” for 100 and a possible discard of energy from EACH of your opponent’s Pokemon (HUGE DISRUPTION!!!) This is assuming you have 5 water energies.
Middle Game:
Depending on how setup went, you can play Gyarados 2 ways here:
1) Play as above mentioned. By now you should have Feraligatr out and energies in hand if not on the field. “Dragon Beat” until Gyarados goes down.
2) If many a Gyarados were KO’ed by attacks early game (cough, cough LUXRAY), play as a traditional Gyarados deck is meant to play, “Tail Revenging” for free 60-90 damage. If Gyarados was KO’ed, common sense says that Magikarp went with him.
Late Game:
Now is where, if you still haven’t taken 6 prizes, you kick into overdrive. If you still have Gyrados/energies left, go ahead, “Dragon Beat”. Most likely, you’ve lost 2 Gyarados in battle and your deck is drained of energy. Use “Tail Revenge” for free for 60-90 damage (depending on the number of Karps in the discard) to finish the game.
Please, let me know what you think! This is a loose list, and even I think it could use some work. Leave some comments below and I’ll be as happy as anything!!! Thanks for reading!
