First of all, thanks for the comments on my other article about Flygon/Slowking.
Lets talk about Ampharos. I tried to fit this card in lots of decks, mostly the power lock Ampharos, but now it has its own deck. I will be discussion the lock version and not the spread version.
The Deck List:
|
Pokémon: 25 4 Mareep 2 Flaaffy 4 Ampharos (2 PL, 1 SW, 1 HS) 2 Baltoy GE 2 Claydol GE 2 Electrike PL 2 Manectric PL 3 Pachirisu GE 1 Azelf LA 2 Crobat G PL 1 Unown G GE |
Trainers: 23 3 Roseanne’s Research 1 Pokemon Collector 3 Bebe’s Search 2 Pokemon Communicattion 2 Expert Belt 1 Broken Time-Space 2 Sunyshore City Gym 4 Rare Candy 2 Warp Point 1 Night Maintenance 1 Palmer’s Contribution 1 Luxury Ball |
Energy: 12 4 Double Colorless 3 Cyclone 5 Lightning |
The main cards of the deck:
- Ampharos Platinum
This Ampharos allows you to power lock every Pokémon with damage counters on it. That’s why the list has two Crobat G, so you can put one damage on any Pokemon and power lock it.
The attacks: The first one is the more useful has you do 60 or 30 + paralyze to slow down your opponent. The second one is a way to attack and charge an Ampharos on bench (Prime normally).
This is the first Ampharos to you want to get on the field. When you lock opponent’s powers they will have to use Supporters; that’s when Ampharos from SW enters in play.
- Ampharos Secret Wonders
This Ampharos puts 2 damage counters on each of your opponent’s Pokémon after they play a Supporter card from his or her hand. This means 20 damage almost every turn.
This Ampharos’ attack isn’t great, so it should be used only as a last resource.
After supporter lock, Ampharos Prime enters in play.
This Ampharos allows you to put 1 damage counter on the Pokemon your opponent attaches their Energy to, so this means 10 more damage each turn.
The attack from this Ampharos is good as it does 80 or discards an Energy, which is great because you can slow down your opponent.
- Manectric
This card protect Claydol from being locked by Ampharos.
Manectric’s attacks are great; the first one allows a 30 damage spread on all Pokémons with Powers, the second attack allows allows you to do 40 damage and charge a benched Ampharos.
This is the best starter I can find for the deck, as it allows you to search for 3 basic Pokemon and is a great counter against SP decks.
The Trainer list is basic so nothing to tell about it. In regards to Energies, Cyclone Energies are there because of Spiritomb and Mr. Mime. A trainer lock on this deck isn’t an autoloss, but slows down the strategy and since Ampharos needs only 1 Lightning we can afford to play Cyclone.
Problems on the deck:
- Dialga G LV.X PL: If this cards enters play, all PokeBodies are shut down. This means the lock strategy must be abandoned and we have to start attacking. The options against this deck are metal resistance, Ampharos Prime attacking for 80 or 100 with Expert Belt, or 60 and TGI Energy Gain discard with Pachirisu.
- Too many Stage 2′s. With 3 types of Ampharos, sometimes we don’t draw the one we want and that means the deck slows down.
- Retreat cost of 2 on two Ampharos and 3 on the other is a big problem against Flygon Lock.
That’s it, give suggestions and thanks all.
