How to use this contraption

Step 1 – Install Java

  1. Install Java if you do not already have it on your computer (the installation should be straightforward).

  2. If a window opens while on this page and asks if you should trust content from this publisher, check the box and click “Run”. (Don’t worry, this program is perfectly safe for your computer.)

Step 2 – Choose a Nickname

  1. In the chat box type /nick NICKNAME, where NICKNAME = your desired nickname.

    1. Alternatively, type your nickname in the bottom right corner of the chat screen where it says “Change nick to” and press enter.

  2. To register your nickname so that no one can also select it and possibly impersonate you, type in /nickserv register PASSWORD E-MAIL, where PASSWORD = a made up password and E-MAIL = your e-mail address.

    1. You must have already chosen your nickname before you can complete this step.

  3. If you leave the chat room and later want to “log in” with your registered nickname, first change your nickname to your registered nickname (see step 1) and then type in /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password, where password = your made up password (from step 2).

Step 3 – THE RULES

  1. Just be cool…don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.
