Card of the Day: The Unbeatable Wall – Shedinja Supreme Victors SV 44

Shedinja Supreme Victors SV 44 Pokemon CardYou may have encountered one before, from Mysterious Treasures – Mr. Mime, whose Poke-Body “Airy Wall” can defend itself against damage from Pokemon with one or two energy attached to it.  Even better, this Pokemon would require a Mime Jr. underneath to get Unown G-like effect, thus it is amazing in matchups like Gyarados, Beedrill and Kingdra.

Mr. Mime Mysterious Treasures MT 30 Pokemon CardIn this one, Shedinja is another amazing wall that have similiar defensive type as Mr. Mime, however – it’s “Marvel Shell” Poke-Body would block any of your Opponent’s Pokemon attacks that have Poke-Powers or PokeBodies.  To make things better, if you have Shedinja in Attacking Position, you could easily deal 30 damage across the field at the same time from its “Spike Wound” attack, after using something that would place damage on the field (examples being Crobat G’s “Flash Bite”, Vibrava SW “Sand Wind”, Palkia G’s “Pearl Breath” and Gallade 4 LV.X‘s “Blade Storm”.

Still, any Pokemon have some downsides – like Mr. Mime have a 70HP and a terrible attack.   Shedinja have 60HP and a decent attack that requires something like place damage or spread to give full usage.  Also, some Pokemon in the format may make this Pokemon feel like it getting shattered, such as most SP basic Pokemon, Machamp SF Beedrill, and Kingdra.

With a large number of popular attackers that have a Poke-Power or a Poke-Body in the metagame, do you think Shedinja would give the format a nice disruption with it’s “Marvel Shell” Poke-Body?  Share your thoughts in the comments section!

I don’t think so. I think almost every deck would have an out to it.

Beedrill GE, Machamp SF, Infernape 4, Garchomp C, Luxray GL, Gallade SW, Gyarados SF, Blaziken FB, Kingdra LA, Dialga G, Palkia G…

There are just too few matchups where Shedinja could actually be useful as a wall.

Also, many decks have ways to get around walls now. SP decks have a ridiculous amount of bench sniping, along with Luxray/Infernape active switching.

Matthew hit it right on the head. Not too much is stopped completely by this little bugger, and it’s quite hard to think of a deck that CAN’T get around the body.

Leafeon/Sceptile might have trouble I guess, as well as Porygon Z.

I like Shedinja and want to try and fit him into a deck, maybe as a tech in a Venusaur SV-Skunktank G deck. Once you had a Venusaur in play, that would let you bring up Shedinja and use Skuntannk’s “Poison Structure” to put damage on the Defender without affecting Shedinja (because of Venusaur’s Poke-Body “Green Aroma”). Then you could use Shedinja’s attack to do damage on the Defender next turn.

The one thing working against using Shedinja as more than a tech is that Nincada only has 40hp. You would be setting yourself up or some pretty bad starts with four of those in your deck, especially against Fire Types. Now Gyarados does work with having 30hp Magikarps, but if one is knocked out it actually helps Gyarados (as long as you can get one evolved).

I agree he can be played around (what can’t), but it would still be disruptive.

  • Power Swing

I’m not to sure about this card there are other techs to putvin your deck than this one. There are plenty of decks that can get around it,gengar, scizor, dialga g, beedrill,l gyarados, kingdra and others.

Like many wall cards in the current game, Shedinja piques interest upon first glance. However, there are just too many pokemon that can bypass the active pokemon and hit the bench to warrant it use. Shedinja does not protect the bench. Not to mention that there are a variety of stage one and two pokemon that to not have pokebodies or pokepowers.

This is a great league card, but is not quite as useful in the tournament setting.

In contrast, Mr. Mime does not need a basic to evolve from, which makes it a much better play as a wall than the 40 HP Nincada that evolves into Shedinja.

Yeah just the fact that it is a stage 1 that only has 60 HP is a huge deterrent from using the card. If it was a basic, maybe, but being a stage 1 makes it almost unplayable unless it gave you an autowin against a certain deck.

i think it has to do with space. Shedninja is only good if you can afford the space. Remember it can also hit things like mewtwo, so it hs been a thought of mine in an sp deck.

Hmmm good point about hitting mewtwo but most decks don’t have space.

Marvel shell is always a great option to stall, but keep an eye to those stage 1 or basic pkmns they can also attack, a little bit of those may have powers or bodies, mr mime is nowadays a wonder defense, decks like gyarados just can’t do anything to this lonely pkmn, once i saw how a gyarados player used his 4 crobats and 3 poke turns to get rid of it..

You’d probably want to be running Broken Time Space so you drop Nincada on the Bench and evolve to Shedinja on the same turn.

I am running a deck with this at the moment without the Mr. Mime. (I have one in there for the Gyarados decks recently though.)

You want to use this with Ninjask from SV and Flygon. Build up Flygon and a Ninjask. Switch bewteen the two then pull out Shednija when your opponent goes power crazy and they are literately stuck while you are sniping the rest of your KO’s. Still working on this but might make an article on it once it is complete.

Yeah I looked at this card real hard when it came out, and have decided Mime does almost everything Shedinja does better. A S1 with 60hp doesn’t cut it. Mime has 70 and is a basic…

    • saturn

That is true but Shednija can not be hit unless the pokemon has no poke-power or body compared to Mr.Mime you only need 3 energies to get around him. Most sniping pokemon have a poke-power or body including Blastoise, Palkia G, and Giratina but also need at least 3 energies to snipe so they can hit Mr. Mime but not Shednija off your bench. He’s pretty much good against for heavy poke-power, body decks. You don’t want him up there against without the special stuff.

      • http://twitter.com/poteet24 Graham Poteet

I understand that Mime can be sniped…but mime isn’t a defensive wall for sniping decks. He’s used against Beedrill, Gyarados, a lot of SPs (assuming Dialga isn’t there) which are more popular than Blastoise and Giartina…

    ramparodos could get around that.

  • PokePockets

I like Shedinja more for it’s attack than anything else. With a BTS and some quick spread for 1 energy, you can pick off some things. It’s body is just icing on the cake

  • Ziffles

good in something that doesn’t need much spae on the bench or in the deck and can use multiple techs, but still very risky

I currently have a grass deck that is based on Ninjask SV, Jumpluff SW, Shaymin Lv X (ground), and Shedinja SV.

The basic idea is to rush with Ninjask for the Circling Dive attack (does 10 damage to the opponent’s entire crew and switches Ninjask with a benched Pokémon) and switch him with either Jumpluff or Shedinja depending on which Pokémon they have active or are likely to bring active.

Jumpluff is nice because he has free retreat, and his poke-body requires a flip before damage is dealt to Jumpluff, effectively extending his HP for several attacks against him. His attack takes 2 energy and potentially snipes for 60 damage (requires 2 coin flips).

I have been considering a Manectric PL to protect the bench.

In the end, if you time it right and bring up the Shedinja, you can stall your opponent and slowly pick off their bench sitters.

It is definately a fun deck to play with because you have many options and you have to play smart to win, but playing against it can be frustrating to say the least.

Thank you for such a good blog. Where else could 1 get such details written in this kind of an incite full way? I have a presentation that I am just now working on, and I have been seeking this sort of information.
