I had no idea you could target Quagsire…I just assumed that since it took no damage while on the bench you couldn’t target it!

When I tested a Luxray deck, I used Golem 4 and targeted it, and when things got sticky I Poketurned Luxray to heal it and then brought out Golem 4 with a Fighting energy and an upper energy to do 110. Not an amazing combo, but it worked at the time.

Qua my dude, what a coincidence because that is the very deck used against Jeremy last night when we tested! Check within the next day or two for a post about it.

Straight Luxray GL is a VERY viable deck. It was actually my first choice for Nationals, before I chickened out after seeing all the Infernape/Luxray running about. Flash Impacting your Crobats isn’t detrimental at all, recommended at that. You don’t use Flash Impact as often as you may think. Against Machamp, you have a great match-up, assuming you have 4 Sunyshore City Gym, and a Toxicroak G PT teched in. Along with a 2-1 Uxie line and 2 Unown G, you are more than equipped to take out Machamp.

Agreed BiskitFoo, I’m still kicking myself for using Palkia G at Nationals. Sunyshore City Gym does help a lot, especially against all the promo Toxicroaks running around in random Pokemon SP decks. In fact I used a Luxray GL deck just like that yesterday versus Adam. Though I find myself using Flash Impact a lot. It’s annoying having to discard energy with Trash Bolt and then not having enough energy later in the game.

    • http://nigredo.proboards.com/ BiskitFoo

Very true. In the build I was going to run, it only had 11 Energy, because that’s all you really needed to secure your early game lead the deck usually promises. Jeremy, were you running the deck with Golem 4s in there, or STRAIGHT Luxray GL?

    • Qua

      Jeremy,
I agree, discarding an energy was very annoying… I tried teching in a 1-1 Starmie RR and 2 Water energies to use it’s power to bring water energies back from discard pile back to your hand. It worked for a while, but I then couldn’t attach energies to other Pokemon… It worked when I got Luxray X and Starmie out turn 2…but how often does that happen? lol

I wish I could build this deck…but Luxray X is soooooo expensive D:

I don’t feel Luxray does enough damage to warrant an entire deck based around it.

I think it’s a great compliment to strong single cards like Infernape, beedrill, kingdra, machamp, gengar, etc.

In order to use luxray g lv.x effectively you have to attack early as possible. Ninetails is a nice partner with the deck, and lucario sp, it worked nicely in pooka’s national deck. I think golem 4 seems like a great way to put the damage to use. Adam how many golem did you find effective?

    Thanks for all the comments!

I was using just straight Luxray GL with a few techs. I’ll get the decklist and my testing results posted here within a couple days.

I think an entire deck based around Luxray may be able to work. It doesn’t have a lot of firepower, but usually the opponent will have something benched with relatively low HP, like Claydol, Azelf, Uxie, etc. With a few uses of its Bright Look Pokemon Power and Poketurn you can gust up one of those low HP Pokemon and KO it to take 1 prize each turn.

Ninetales I like as a tech. But since it needs 2 Fire energy to attack it would probably only fit in the “LuxApe” deck. That combined with Lucario GL’s Pokemon Body can OHKO Flygon and Mewtwo LV.X, a couple of the cards a Pokemon SP deck could have trouble with. But I’m not sure whether I like Lucario GL or Lake Boundary better to change everyone’s weakness to x2. Lucario GL can be gotten with Roseanne’s Research so it’s searchable, but Lake Boundary doesn’t take up a bench space and it can counter a Stadium that’s giving the opponent an advantage, like Broken Time-Space.

    • rokman

I don’t think 60 per turn is enough, especially not in this format. That’s why I feel Luxray is a good complementary pokemon.

      • http://nigredo.proboards.com/ BiskitFoo

Michael, you’d be surprised with how brutal that can be early game.

      • rokman

Yeah it’s just like Kingdra, I know. But Kingdra has so much more mid or late game potential because it hits the bench for 20 also. Luxray doesn’t have that. Plus you’re doing 30 to yourself every turn.

      • http://nigredo.proboards.com/ BiskitFoo

The main thing, I believe, that gives Luxray a little edge over King is that it can pull out possible/Claydols early game, which benefits you majorly in the long run. I mean, King could run a 2-1 Luxray line with it if you wanted to, it just wouldn’t be as effective as a straight Luxray build would be.

Seeing all this discussion is so gnarly, I didn’t know we would be getting this much going!

Luxray also gets the edge of being able to use all the SP Trainers which are a little more than decent.

I was skeptical of using this in a deck by itself when I first saw this card…

    Man, was I wrong.
I knew it was good, but not in a deck by itself. Warping up Claydol is just crazy… and it combos so well with Infernape 4′s first attack.

    20 (Infernape)+30 (from Luxray GL’s Bite) is a KO on Baltoy…

and 20+60 (Flash Impact) is a KO on Claydol.

From my point of view Luxray Gl Lv. X was never really an attacker, he is almost always a tech for the “Gust of wind” Power, the attack is also good against kingdra if that matchup arrises, but I see most, if not all the top decks at worlds use him in the next format/ possibly worlds. Heck, almost any deck can use 2-1 line tech, especially since it’s basic *2-1line +3 Poketurn could also be teched into stage 2 decks, who said you had to use him specifiacally with SP decks?
