This card has a lot of potential, but i think its fares badly against the sp decks. Not only do their basics have higher hp, they pack power spray as well. Luxray GL will cause a few haedaches for the honchkrow player. Probably better off as a finisher for when they have some pokemon in the discard. Start of the game he is pretty useless.

How are sp decks a problem? If they have even a small bench, you basically OHKO them without trying. lol. I’m probably going to play this deck for BRs since its amazing. I’m playing it with the LA gross atm, since its far easier to ko the basic when its active (plus you can use darkness wing and get back cool cards), and while metagross SV makes it really easy to ko basics, it also leaves the bird with only 90 hp, which is too low imo. One other card to mention is chatot G. Since you can kill thier claydol pretty easily (either by koing baltoy, 2 shotting the dol, or dark palming it in), you can controll thier next few turns and give them dead draws.

This was a very attractive card at it’s release, but in all the start up and eventual use of it is harder than it seems. You almost always have to use some combination of cards for it to work, and in a Luxray filled metagame, it’s sure to die quickly.

I still like it, but the list may have to be near perfect for it to be effective.

I like this card a lot, especially the art :]

Although it does need some kind of support in order to get the full range of its abilities (damage +basics/picking off basics), it does seem to fare well against a lot of decks due to how it can get easy prizes using its power. The dark typing helps as well, giving it tons of support options (weavile, darkrai lvX, sp. darks, moonlight stadium).

I didn’t think of pairing it with its SP counterpart, and I kind of like that idea, allowing you to save your more useful honchy on the bench while you get the knockouts with SP Honchcrow. It requires some switches and warppoints, of course, but a nice idea. Metagross is a decent combo, but as said, watch out for that reduced HP on your side as well, since that might be a double edged sword (especially if they play luxray lvX). Dusknoir is THE play though, IMO. Near total bench control? Yes please.

I think the hardest thing to do is to get some low HP basic in the discard early game, since Honchcrow kind of requires either a great start or energy accel. in order to get a nice big hit in before it can start with the discard trick. The SP Honchy helps in this regard, as if you can manage to start with it and a crobat G you can pick off a baltoy or something on the bench before it evolves and use that as your fuel. These two also contribute to the total basic count, so that’s a plus.

I’m going to have to do some testing! I’m really looking forward to this one!

Right now I’ve been working pretty hard with this guy. He’s my favorite card from SV, which doesn’t necessarily make him playable but I think he has a spot in this Pokemon TCG world. I love being able to play him with SW murkrow because he can evolve the turn you put him down. The big deck I’m trying to incorporate him in is CrowCrowray (honchrow honchcrow G Luxray GL, with the idea in mind that I KO the same pokemon six times straight (like baltoy, machop, etc). It sounds great in theory but right now I feel that the deck is sloppy. I feel like in order to use this guy you NEED switch/warp point so that you can switch out to the honch, bring something back from the dead, and then switch out and snipe. Unknown Q’s and Moonlight help for the retreating aspect–the 1 retreat cost on either honchcrow is pretty annoying.

He feels very much like lumineon to me in that he has to be active to do a simmilar service, but I’m not sure which card is better at the moment. Both suffer the same weakness, low hp, “has to be active”. Honch gets points because you always know that you’re going to be able to use your power effectively, but I’ve always liked lumineon’s free retreat and no energy mini-snipe attack.

Right now testing with the deck is going just okay. Maybe if I drop the luxray and go straight honchcrow it’ll have more consistancy

Well the only thing Honchcrow G is doing for you (theorymon, not experience yet) is giving you a)a meatshield to protect your SV Honchy, b)a cheaper attack, assuming energy gain, and c)a halway-decent starter to get you setup. Other than that, the SV Honchcrow does the same snipe when leveled up, but for one more energy and doesn’t need previous damage on it. If you’re out of switches or something, why not just use SVHonch? It gets the same result for when you can’t spare a warppoint or something, and has more HP anyway.

I was thinking like this. Use Honchcrow and Dusknoir, and then use Empoleons sniping attack(dunno what the attack is called, but it is from PL.) then you can snipe and get prizes fast as hell being able to snipe all those basics.

I’m thinking that if I can get Honchcrow SV/Dusknoir DP/Luxray GL X to be consistent, it’d be my new deck. How awesome would that be? Get a 60 HP basic from the discard, retreat, bright look the basic, dark palm their attacker, kill the basic.

I don’t think a deck can get more disruptive and still be effective at winning.

Assuming you can get Honchkrow set up fast enough, this deck would wipe out the French Gyarados deck. As the whole strategy of the deck is to dump Magikarps into the discard pile early, pulling them out and onto the bench would really put a dent in the strategy.

    • Mach

I think it’d be too tempting to send them right back to the discard with a Faint Attack.

I am not real high on this card. I played vs it a couple time in a Dusknoir list and it was nearly impossible to pull off any combo with it. Power Spray can too easily shut off its Power and it is extremely prone to Luxray GL, quite possibly the most played card at the moment. I don’t feel it’s worth the effort to try to pull of any combo with it.

HOWEVER, if anyone out there wants to prove me wrong, go right ahead. :) And post an article about your deck too. ;)

I would say the only feasible way to use it is with Honchrow G, Crobat G, and Upper Energies. Keep it as simple as possible.

I never liked this card. It’s attacks are not good at all. It’s weakness is bad it’ll get one shot’d by luxray gl lv.x.

    • Brian

I thought so too, until I actually tested it out. The attack is absolutely RIDICULOUS. If you play it with just one crobat, you can easily swing for an OHKO on pretty much any pokemon. Assume you only have 3 basics on your bench (likely but also easy to not do). If you dealt with thier claydol early, like you should’ve, then they will likely be attacking with uxie swarm while they try to set-up thier back-up dol and evolve. That gives you the likelyhood of them having 2-4 basics in play, but lets use 90 as an average. Thats 90 damage for 3 energy, right off the bat. With 2 special darks, thats 110. If their bench isn’t full, thats an additional 10. Now you can say “but that won’t happen…they would’ve evolved all of thier pokemon by now”. And yes, that is probably true. But dusknoir not only lets you stop thier big guns from overwhelming you, but it also opens up bench space to drop basics on thier bench via houchkrow’s power. So you can easily get both players benches to 4 pokemon. If you do, you can basically deal with both of the opponets big guys in one turn and leave them with a dead set-up. Luxray is obviously a beast against krow, but if he’s a big deal in your area, you’re not going to play this deck (though if krow gets a decent enough start, I can see it going head to head with lux if he plays a few upper energies). If lux is everywhere, you’re probably going to play rhyperior (which I haven’t even seen anybody touch yet) or something along those lines.

Of course, my results are based on running houchkrow with absol, to slow down the opponet’s rush and to get basics in the discard pile early enough.

Obviously this card has issues with Luxray GL Lv. X. I’ve put more thought into this card, and this is a prototype list I would try out with Honchkrow, going with the theme of KOing easy targets:

    Pokemon: 22

4 Honchkrow G PL (ideal starter!)
    2 Murkrow SW
    2 Honchkrow SV
    1 Honchkrow Lv. X SW
    2 Baltoy GE
    2 Claydol GE
    3 Crobat G PL
    1 Unown G GE
    1 Unown Q GE
    1 Uxie LA
    1 Azelf LA
    1 Toxicroak G Promo

    Energy: 14

    4 Call Energy
    4 Special Dark
    3 Basic Dark
    2 Psychic

    Supporters: 13

    4 Cyrus’s Conspiracy
    4 Roseanne’s Research
    3 Bebe’s Search
    2 Cynthia’s Feelings

    Trainers: 12

    4 TGI Poke Turn
    4 TGI Energy Gain
    2 Night Maintenance
    2 Warp Point

Something I’d like to test out. Abuse consistency and your super fast attackers to get quick KO’s. Getting 6 prizes quickly with this could be very easy. Say your opponent wants to fill up their bench with stuff so you can’t “Darkness Restore”, well what are the odds all 5 of their benched Pokemon are all tough, evolved Pokemon that you can’t OHKO?

    • nardd

What’s the chance all 5 of their benched Pokemon are all 2HKO’s for your 40 damage snipe? Very good chance. Dusknoir is too beneficial to the strategy to avoid that kind of situation and give you room to darkness restore.

    • Brian

If your going to go with hounchkrow as a tech, I would definately not go with this type of deck. I would rather use him as a nice little guy to grab uxies and azelfs and beat them up with a spread deck for the last few prizes after you spread thier board to death. Obama definately likes the black bird (HA). If you’re just looking at a sniper, then probably krow is the best around, but its attack is basically a meh version of the Xs attack. Idk just seems like you have no hope if they fill thier bench with sp guys, so maybe a 1-1 mewtwo line is in order (gives you that big fat guy, who also conviently feeds off of houchkrow nicely, and vice-versa).

As i wrote before. Honchcrow and a bench sniper. u get all 6 prizes in no time. Like empoleon PL. Its great sniping. or maybe a Blastoise PL, then they are in big trouble.i would have Hioncho on the bench and let the others do the work.

    Strategy:
Use Honchos poke power. take one basic to the bench from discard. Use dusknoirs power to remove pokemons from the bench. Do that to an pokemon that is strong o helping your opponent set up.
Then use Empoleons or blastoise sniping attacks and just kick that guy real hard. u get 6 prizes from on you have that setup in no time. probably.

Anyone that’s played me in the last month knows I’ve been working on a Krow list that’s extremely good when set up. It’s just got consistency problems, and a couple bad match-ups (Palkia, Flygon), so I’ve been tweaking it. You can find it by searching Krowd Kontrol Pokemon through Google.

Someone did something right with this card because it won a States with it ^^

I think it was Honchkrow G and Sableye SF. They basically just tried to win turn 1 (and did quite often). Sounds like a cool deck to me, I just don't have any clue what the list looks like. Hopefully someone uses it this weekend at PA and I can get some info on it.
