Today, I’ll be reviewing Rescue Energy from the latest set, Triumphant. When people first found out that there was going to be a new Special Energy in Triumphant, a lot of players got pretty excited. Why? It’s because we’re getting a new Special Energy! We’ve seen reprints of Scramble, Double Rainbow, and the latest Double Colorless Energies reprinted, but it isn’t very common for us to get a new Special Energy.
Rescue Energy is a Special Energy that, like Call/Warp/Cyclone Energy, provides C along with an effect. It states that, if the Pokemon this card is attached to is knocked out by damage from an attack, you may add that Pokemon back to your hand. This is a glorious effect, being able to bring back a full line of Pokemon to your hand is arguably the best non-SP recovery in the format. The most common deck to utilize this card is Gyarados to recover both MagiKarp and Gyarados, which is a very effective tactic against a wide range of decks. Many VileGar players are also testing out this card. I personally have tried it with Gengar and am very happy with the results.
It seems that most people only use this card in heavy counts in decks that need massive recovery (e.g., Gyarados). However, I find that using Rescue Energy as a two-of tech works really well in a wide variety of decks. However, Rescue Energy, like all good cards, has an Achilles’ Heel, and that is Dialga G LV.X with its “Remove Lost”. The attack can remove Rescue Energy from the Pokemon, making its effect useless. But the good side of it is that “Remove Lost” will require heads to be effective.
Many people believe that Seeker is the best card in the set, but I believe that Rescue Energy is tied for number one with Seeker. I can say that without fear of overstating Rescue Energy’s usefulness in the slightest.
My Recommendation: Play FOUR in Gyarados, strongly consider it in Gengar SF decks and try it out in nearly all of your decks.
