Today, I decided I would take a look a new Triumphant card, Magnezone Prime. Magnezone Prime is a Stage 2 Pokemon with 140 HP that comes from the unimpressive Magnemite/Magneton line. Magnezone is a Lightning Pokemon, meaning it can hit Kingdra Prime and Gyarados for weakness. The x2 Fighting Weakness, like I’ve said before, is pretty bad, meaning Machamp SF, Promocroak, Donphan and Machamp Prime all hit you for a lot more damage. The -20 Metal Resistance is great, giving you some survivability against Steelix, Scizor and Dialga G LV.X. Finally, the three retreat cost sucks.
Its Poke-Power “Magnetic Draw” is, well I’ll be blunt, amazing. It states that, once during your turn, you may draw until you have 6 cards in your hand. When you’re reading this card, no one will blame you if you start to cry and say “Darn you Claydol!” Despite losing the ability to send up to two cards to the bottom of your deck as well as this being a Stage 2, this is still a glorious Poke-Power.
“Lost Burn”, its sole attack, for LC, lets you put as many Energy cards attached to all of your Pokemon as you like in the Lost Zone. The attack then dishes out 50 damage for each Energy put in your Lost Zone in this way. Well, this is a great attack, being able to staggering amounts of damage.
When I read this attack, I think of a few aspects of “Lost Burn” that really make it stand out in my mind. Firstly, you can add damage by removing Energy that are attached to ANY of your Pokemon, not just Magnezone Prime. This allows you to never need to devote more than two Energy to Magnezone Prime, allowing you to use your resources on other Pokemon without fear of running out of fuel for “Lost Burn”. Secondly, you can almost always ensure a OHKO, granted you have enough Energy for it. If you’re up against an Absol G LV.X, remove two Energy. If Machamp SF is causing you problems, send three to the grinder.
Magnezone Prime is an amazing (I know, I’ve overused the word, but amazing is the best word to describe it) card that acts as both an accelerator and OHKO machine.
My Recommendation: I think that this will be another great deck to use for cities, combo it with the other useful Magnezone’s to make a very consistent, fun deck. I know that Magnezone will see play at cities, so I strongly suggest that you learn how to play against it.
My Rating: 4.25/5
