Today, I’ll be reviewing the requested card Blissey Prime, from HeartGold SoulSilver. This card shares many similarities with its Unseen Forces version, Blissey ex, as you’ll soon find out. Like usual, we’ll start with the root of each Pokemon: its stats.
Blissey Prime actually has great stats, being a stage 1 Colorless Pokemon. Being stage 1 gives you a speed edge over your stage 2 counterparts and being Colorless means you hit Garchomp C for weakness. Blissey has a massive 130 HP, with the only other stage 1′s on that level are Donphan Prime, Steelix Prime and Gyarados SF. The x2 Fighting weakness is still bad; meaning Donphan, Promocroak, Machamp SF and the new Machamp Prime all hit you for weakness. The retreat cost of two is by no means good, but when you consider we’re talking about Blissey here, we’re just happy it isn’t 3.
It’s only attack; “Strength” for CCC will do a vanilla 60, which is very low damage, even when factoring in Double Colorless Energy. However, it’s not a terrible emergency attacker if your deck does play DCE.
The only reason you’d probably play this card is for its Poke-Power, “Blissful Nurse” which lets you remove damage all damage counters from your Pokemon, but then you must discard all energy attached to those Pokemon.
Clearly, the best use of this card is to heal Pokemon that can attack for little to no energy, such as Gyarados, Machamp SF, Gengar SF, etc. I have personally tested out this card and found that it works well as a 1-1 or in some cases, a 2-2 line because it makes Gyarados extremely difficult to KO. However, with the new Rescue Energy, this will probably see less play as it will discard it. This drawback can be played around, but it isn’t as easy as you’d suspect, especially if your opponent plays Judge or Looker’s to disrupt your hand.
I’d say the biggest weaknesses to Blissey Prime are that it can be Power Sprayed and it takes up a bench spot.
Recommendation Try it out in Gyarados along side your Rescue Energy and see how it works for you. Also, experiment with it in other decks besides G-Dos.
