Free Delivery and Shipping: A look at Drifblim SF

Drifblim Stormfront SF 16 Pokemon CardI’ll start this article by saying “Hi” to the SixPrizes community and “Thanks” to Adam and Pablo for doing an excellent job on this site and keeping it running smoothly. This really is an awesome site and it opened my eyes about the world of Pokémon TCG. My name is Kendall Kildare (Call me RandomGuy or “rg”) and I have been playing the Pokémon TCG casually for 1 year. I only use Water decks because my favorite color is blue.

Drifblim SF has always been one of my favorite cards. It has a decent amount of HP, no Retreat Cost and has 2 really useful moves that require no energy to use. I honestly believe that it has the potential to be used competitively if people only gave it a chance. It has 3 Attacks which are “Delivery”, “Lifting” and “Ominous Wind.”

The Good

“Delivery” allows the player to take any 1 card from their discard pile and put it into their hand and requires no Energy to use. This is a pretty good attack as it can work well if you have a Luxury Ball in the discard pile, you can just put it into your hand then use it again to set up the Pokémon on your bench the next turn. You can also bring back other important cards such as Bebe’s Search, Roseanne’s Research, Rare Candy, Energy cards both Special and Basic and ANY Pokémon in your discard pile. “Lifting” allows the player to search their decks for up to 2 Basic Pokémon and put them on their bench . Also it allows you to find an energy for each Pokémon you chose. This can be really useful if you have a deck with different types of Pokémon or if you want to get Unown G, Baltoy GE or other important basics out such as your Pokémon G /FB/ 4/ SP/GL and give them an energy. No Retreat Cost on Driftblim SF allows you to easily switch it out with a Pokémon you set up in the previous turn or have already set up.

Expert Belt Arceus AR 87 Pokemon CardIf you want to power up Drifblim SF and guarantee at least two uses of either move, give it the card that appears to be rising in popularity: the Expert Belt from the Arceus series. Expert Belt will increase it’s HP to 110 and give it’s moves an extra 20 damage. Expert Belt gives “Ominous Wind” the power to 1HKO or heavily Damage many Psychic LV.X Pokémon such as Mewtwo LV.X and Cresselia LV.X as well as many Psychic and Fighting FB/SP/4/Gl/G pokemon. Expert Belt also allows you to do 20 damage your opponent’s Pokémon while applying the effects of the attacks “Lifting” and “Delivery” for no energy at all.

The Bad

Drifblim SF can be extremely slow to set up being a stage one evolution and it’s setting up capabilities are slow. You’ll only have at least 1 good chance to use 1-of it’s attacks. That being said these are also attacks we are talking about. Once you one your turn ends. It’s not a Poké-Power or a Poké-Body so you must be very careful and consider the consequences before you use any of it’s attacks and if it has an Expert Belt is it really worth the 2 Prize cards you risk if your opponent Knocks it Out? You decide.

Do you think that Drifblim SF is worth using competitively in a deck because of it’s many uses or just be considered useless and unable to compete in the Competitive TCG world?

one things for sure…this card could have been better if it were a basic cause there is no evolving on the first turn making it real slow…i think i wont be seein this card out in play

    • RandomGuy  → Ivan

Yes, being a basic pokemon would have made the card better. The same could be said for Claydol GE, but it’s effect is instantaneous and it remains on the bench safe from harm (for the most part) so even though you have to evolve it, it can also be considered to have slow start up it makes for a better support card.

This card is quite potential to play, IMO. Getting 2 Basics with 1 Energy on both sound great for start of the game. Delivery is a nice tech move whenever you want to sacrifice this card to the opponent.

MD Drifloon also has an Delivery attack, but it requires a coin flip. Its other move does handy 20 damage plus switches itself to the bench for a single Psychic energy.

PS: You misstyped Unown G and Baltoy. Drifblim @ Expert Belt does NOT do 20 when you use Delivery or Lifting. It does the extra 20 damage only if you do damage with its move.

    • RandomGuy  → Toni

Ah yes, That was my mistake. This was the original post I sent. I went back to edit the Unknown G and Boltoy, but alas it was too late.

Drifblim is definitely meant to be a sacrifice pokemon. But are people really willing to trade a prize card or two for basic pokemon? Thanks for reading Tonu, =)

      • Toni Taitto  → RandomGuy

Two Basics plus 2 Basic Energy cards attached could easily be worth of the given prize to your opponent for some of the decks, especially if your Pokémons would need 2-3 Energies to attack. You could also use a tech Lucian/Energy Switch/Stark Mountain to move the energy/energies around to get 3+ Energy Pokémon at the following turn. So sacrificing this one could be useful. Pulling an Upper Energy via Delivery could also be a nice move. :)

I’ve always wanted to try this card on a deck. Maybe I should try to figure some deck where to test this card.

        • RandomGuy  → Toni

Nice thinking with the Lucian/Energy Switch/Stark Mountain idea.

Try and test it out. It might be worth it. I’d test it more myself, but I’m lacking the cards to build a solid and competitive deck other then the one Water deck I’m running now. Haha. I might but it in there to see how it works.

This is an awesome card and Randomguy, what a good idea. I think you should play Drifblim in a Machamp deck such as Steven Silvestro’s MaChamp. It would help set up a machop and a regirock so you can attach a fighting energy to both and move the one on Regirock to Machop with Stark Mountain.

  6. RandomGuy

Exactly! Thanks a lot for reading and your input, Luxbox. =)

  7. Colin Peterik

Just wanted to point out that Expert Belt only adds damage on attacks that already include damage. Therefore, the first 2 attacks would not hit for 20 because they are only effects.

  8. Power Swing

I like this card a lot and have tested it in a couple of my decks. But it has way to many weak spots in my opinion. Its a stage 1 which slows it down, it has to be active for it to do anything, it will most likely be ohko when you play it, and with the plox coming back it just makes this card even worse. You really have to think about this card because is it really worth getting those cards from your discard pile if they get to most likely take a prize. What im trying to say is, one prize is game changing in this format and don’t think you should alow your opponent to get ahead like that. But thanks for the article its nice to see some not so popular stuff have a chance to prove itself.

    • RandomGuy  → Power

Excellent points Power Swing and with some strong truth to them. It’s good to see that someone has tested Drifblim. Thanks for reading the article. I’m all for sacrifice plays though that’s just how I play.

The “Lifting” attack is the only thing that draws me to this card. Getting two energies with two basics is pretty sick, however you will probably have to provide some way of moving your energy around. A slower deck that may need to sacrifice a pokemon to start up may be able to use this card effectively. Also as a Psychic Counter, it’s not too bad, considering it also has the preferible Darkness weakness.

Lifting was what drew me to the card as well. I didn’t really pay attention to Delivery as much. I just wanted my basics out.
Thanks for reading and replying Quaziko.

  13. Power Swing

Also, there are better techs that can get basics out quicker and can also have other purpose which makes them more effecient. Some examples are pachirisu and weavile g, pachirisu alows you to grab 3 basics but it can also be useful against anything with a pokemon toll by discarding it. Weavile G alows you to grab 2 sp pokemon but has another attack that could hit fairly gard. Sure none of them grab energy but i would rather have a basic that could get double the work done than a stage 1 that mainly does one thing.

    Random Guy,

You give a good analysis of the card. I don’t think I would play Drifblim with Expert Belt though as I would reserve that card for a Pokemon that could really do some damage and take some hits.

I really like this card in some decks. I’ve just started testing it in my Snorlax deck. Without seeing your article, I actually wrote a piece on Driflbim and Dodrio and submitted it a few days ago. Hopefully it’s a case of great minds think alike!

I still think it would be best in a machamp deck with moving energies.

  21. Jona Jeffords

When you talk about decks that move energy around being suited for this card, I think of the recent Gardevoir that has a power to move all psychic energy to the active pokemon. Also, energy link comes to mind. With Drifblim, you could get out 2 basics with 1 energy each and next turn attach 1 energy from hand, and move one energy (however you choose to do it) and now you’ve got 3 energies on a pokemon 1 turn faster than normal. Although it probably would take a carefully constructed and tested deck to really make this work consistently.

Nice write up by the way.

i like this card, i considered it to power up GG when double colorless comes, but i’ve been testing it and weavile es actually much better, delivery is also a clever attack it may stop flytrap from deck-out picking up some night maintenance taking no damage from sand tomb :D
